Dato’ Ir. Dr. Nik Mohd Kamel Nik Hassan is the founder and Managing Director of Dr. Nik & Associates Sdn. Bhd. (DNA) - an engineering and project management consultancy firm. Dato’ Dr. Nik had initially started Dr. Nik & Associates as a sole proprietor in 1993 and later in 1994 the company has been incorporated as Dr. Nik & Assocates Sdn. Bhd. Under his leadership, guidance and initiatives over the 20 years since its inception, the company has grown and expanded from its base and headquarters in Wangsa Maju, Kuala Lumpur, with strategic branches opened throughout Malaysia.

On its own and through its associate companies, DNA has been involved in numerous engineering consultancy and management projects in Malaysia and also overseas. With an organization comprising of more than 100 experienced professionals and supporting staff, it is now one of the country’s leading and most respected firms, with a hard-earned and proven track record for reliability and credibility.

Dato’ Dr. Nik, who was born in 1953, had obtained his first professional qualification in Civil Engineering from the University of Southampton, England in 1976. This was followed by a B.Sc. (Hons) and then M.Sc. (Hons) in Civil Engineering in 1979 and 1981 respectively from the same university. In 1985, he obtained his Ph.D. in Hydraulics Engineering from University of Manchester’s Institute of Science and Technology, United Kingdom.

Dato’ Dr. Nik had started his working life in academia, rising to later become an Associate Professor at the Civil Engineering Department of the University of Malaya (UM). He was also the Referee for the Institution of Engineers Malaysia’s (IEM) Journal and Bulletin from 1987 to 1991, and the Director of UM’s Unit Perundingan in 1992. After 14 years of involvement in the academic side of engineering as a student and then tutor, lecturer and professor, Dato’ Dr. Nik decided to venture out and apply the skills and knowledge he had learned and taught to the practical world of engineering.

From 1993 onwards, he has directed and also provided technical advice and input for all water resources and coastal engineering projects undertaken by DNA. These covered detailed designs of flood mitigation, river modelling, hydrological analysis, urban drainage design, water resources management, environmental impact assessment, coastal engineering design and modelling, dredging and land reclamation projects. The company’s clients over the years include government and semi-government agencies like the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS), Public Works Department (JKR), Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) and Penang Port; and corporations like Petronas, Malakoff, E&O, UEM Construction and Siemens KWU.

Dato’ Dr. Nik is also a Professional Member of the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), a registered Environmental Consultant and Subject Specialist with the Department of Environment (DOE) Malaysia, a member of the International Association of Hydraulics Research (MIAHR), International Water Resources Association (MIWRA), Institution of Engineers Malaysia (MIEM) and the Malaysia Water Association (MWA).

Dato’ Dr. Nik has also been appointed as an Advisor and Academic Panel for Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Universiti Pertanian Malaysia (UPM) and Universiti Tun Hussin Onn Malaysia (UTHM).

Ir. Ts. Nik Abdullah Muaz started his career as a Project Engineer for marine works (Ports, Jetty, Coastal Engineering, Coastal Protection, Dredging and Reclamation works). He was responsible for the successful completion of a number of key signature projects locally and internationally. He assumed the position of General Manager of Construction company in 2011 and as a Director for a specialised marine engineering consultancy firm in 2015. He brings over several years experience in the local & international construction and marine industry.

He was involved in several major project namely Projek Pembinaan Kompleks KDN Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Istana Negeri Sembilam, Kuala Lumpur, Fujairah Reclamation Works, Hotel JAL Fujairah Resort and Spa Marine Works Mina Al Fajer Breakwater, Vopak Horizon Fujairah Limited Oil Jetty Construction Works, UAE, Land Reclamation Project, Coastal Protection Structure and Associated Marine for Phase 1 and Phase 2 at Tanjong Tokong, Penang, Runaway Extension for Kuala Terengganu Airport, Terengganu, Expansion of North Butterworth Container Terminal (NBCT) Project, Penang and Port of Tanjung Pelepas, Johore.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) from the University of Wollongong, Australia. He completed his Masters of Engineering in Coastal Engineering and Port Development from UNESCO-IHE Delft in The Netherlands. He obtained the Master of Science in Hydraulic Engineering and holds a title ingenieur (ir) from the University of Technology (TUDelft) in the Netherlands.

He used to be involved in both operation and technical divisions and has extensive technical knowledge in coastal engineering, port development, dredging & land reclamation and marine experience. He was previously responsible in providing technical seminars to the Public Works Department (PWD) and Department of Irrigation & Drainage (DID) and currently as an adjunct lecturer in University of Petronas, Tronoh, Perak.

He provides leadership and guidance in developing technical strategies to identify possibilities and viability of project towards meeting the company's profitability and objectives. He is an associate member of the Institute of Engineers Australia, Royal Institute of Engineers, The Netherlands and Graduate Member of the Board of Engineers Malaysia.

Ir. Farhan Nasri Bin Abdul Rahman started his career as a Project Engineer with HCM Engineering Sdn. Bhd. in 2002. At HCM Engineering he is responsible to plan projects, establishing project criteria, coordinating project reviews, and ensuring the proper implementation of project elements.

In 2005, Ir. Farhan Nasri Bin Abdul Rahman joined Dr. Nik & Associates Sdn. Bhd. as Civil Engineer and before long was appointed as Technical Manager (Civil). During his tenure as Technical Manager he participated in planning, designing and overseeing construction of building structures and infrastructures such as roads and harbours, as well as involved in irrigation and land reclamation projects.

After repeatedly proving himself to be an excellence planner and executor of various projects, and by virtue of his good managerial skill, Ir. Farhan Nasri Bin Abdul Rahman was appointed as one of the Directors at Dr. Nik & Associates Sdn. Bhd. on 12 July 2021.

Ir. Farhan Nasri Bin Abdul Rahman holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil & Structural Engineering from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. He is a registered Professional Engineer with Practicing Certificate with the Board of Engineer Malaysia and also a member of the Institute of Engineers Malaysia. In addition, Ir. Farhan Nasri Bin Abdul Rahman is a graduate member of Malaysian Board of Technologist and a member of Malaysian National Committee on Large Dams.
